The Crofter's dilemma; how many sheeps with a hangover can one fit in the boot of a small hatchback?
Here's to a great 2022
This sheeps had overdone things at the festivities and had to be taken to the barn for a little tlc.
The boys that Do, doing 'it' for the crofters sheeps. Not sure what 'it' was but the sheeps seem to be looking forward to something.
The good Crofter and new stockman Colin review the days work. The sheeps wonder what's going to happen to them.
Now the boy Finlay is gone, Dad crofter cleans the trailer after the Crofter bought new beasts back from Aberdeen.
Meanwhile Murdo grazing committee stops by and wonder how the gate to the grazing by the beach down the road keeps being shut after he's taken it off its hinges and tied it up - several times.
Murdo is trying to tempt The Crofters recalcitrant sheeps off the grass there as it's time to give the land a rest - or something like that.
I could hear the whirr-Baa of the mechanised shearing taking place not 50ft from my home. The Crofter and Finlay were releasing the hot creatures of their mainly black wool. The Hebridean sheeps wool is currently worth nothing so it's done for kind reasons and the Soay sheeps had already shed their wool for themselves.
The boys were talking films for some reason, not haylage or the soaring price crofts on the island but it was a nice scene all the same.
Ms Emily Crofter and I took time out to name a late new born lamb too. Nigel is doing fine since you ask as the weather here is still fine and warmish [relatively].
Finlay Farmhand: I make no apology for another snap of the fine fellow but we will miss his smiley face and galumping wellies when he goes back to University soon. Hope to see him again though.
The Kind crofter teaches Finlay how to shuffle bits of paper about so it looks like you have done something.
"Always leave a bit of paper on the floor so you can slump on the desk and if someone surprises you you can pretend you were picking the paper up".
Wise words.
Dad Crofter looks for a suitable bit of wood while building new chicken apartments as Finlay goes of in search of sheeps.
The coows were keen to help to get their treat into the field but just hindered instead. Twas lovely to be back out at the Croft with Dad and Finlay - and a quick nod to Gemma and Paul when I arrived, Keith the cat trailing behind.
I came across Dad Crofter helping the new farm-hand Finlay, with the roll of grassy deliciousness. It was heavy so they took a moment to take it all in while the coows and geeses shouted. It wasn't as hot as it had been and the breeze was keeping the little flying things away.
The coows, geese and sheeps were all shouting this morning so I popped down to see what the fuss was about.
Birthday boy David celebrates his 80th yesterday with a dusting of snow and sunshine.
We wish him many more fine birthdays.
Dad Crofter and imself the Crofter insert a roll of delicious strawy allsorts for the sheeps o'er the road at No. 10.
Mrs Crofter and Ms Emily awaiting to see the hitherto static PoR actually move - albeit in a cloud of smoke.
Mrs Crofter and Ms Emily awaiting the surprising arrival of The Kind Crofter in the Tractor. Yes, it moves albeit in a cloud of smoke and a sprinkling of dust particles scattering behind. Emily was so impressed she said she is going to paint it pink. Good girl.
